Petition to Support Universal Health Care

Healthcare should be a resident’s right. (Letter to Rep. Rick Larsen attached)

We, the undersigned, are concerned citizens who urge our U.S. Representative to support universal healthcare.

Dear Representative Larsen,

We the people of the 2 nd Congressional District urge you to support  single-payer healthcare system for all. The Washington State Democratic Central Committee recently passed Resolution 843 supporting single-payer. In this resolution it is noted that single-payer health care bills have been introduced in
both the Washington State House (Rep. Appleton) and Senate (Sen. Hasegawa),yet has not come out of committee. There is an active bill in the United States House of Representatives, HR 676, Expanded & Improved Medicare for All (Rep.Conyers), that would provide health coverage for all U.S. residents. We thank U.S. Representatives Pramila Jayapal (WA-7), and Adam Smith (WA-9) for vocally supporting and co- sponsoring HR 676. Senator Bernie Sanders recently introduced his “Medicare for All” bill. While the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) has greatly reduced the number of
uninsured in our country, it is generally recognized as a positive first step toward the goal of universal coverage. The GOP has been actively trying to repeal or dismantle the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) since its inception. In light of the recent action by Donald Trump cancelling federal subsidies to insurers, premiums will increase drastically for many poor and middle-class families,
driving them back into the ranks of the uninsured. As long as healthcare remains a for-profit industry, insurance companies and their allies, both in and out of government, will always value their bottom lines over the needs of the people. We were gratified to learn of your stated commitment to universal healthcare and
believe the time has come for leadership in channeling the energy and will of the people toward the most beneficial, cost-effective outcome - that of a single-payer system with universal coverage.
We believe that you have the ability and experience to provide that leadership.

Thank you.
Very Truly Yours,
Your Constituents
